Thank you for visiting the Dorchester County Department of Social Services webpage. We hope you find this website helpful and informative.

We assist the public by administering a wide range of public assistance and social services programs including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps), Medical Assistance, and Temporary Cash Assistance. We provide energy assistance to help pay heating bills and emergency assistance to prevent homelessness. We administer the Child Support Enforcement Program by establishing paternity and court orders for child support and we collect, and distribute child support payments.

In addition, we provide Child Welfare and Adult Services. We investigate allegations of child or adult abuse/neglect. When parents fail to meet their children's health or safety needs, we may monitor and provide services which include support, assistance or temporary or long term out-of- home care including Adoption.

The Dorchester County Department of Social Services is the local office of the Maryland Department of Human Resources (DHR).
